New Housing Development

Approximately 25,000 m3 of subsoils were stabilised, in multiple layers of 300mm, on a substrata with an acceptable underlying CBR value, in excess of 1 metre deep, to provide an bearing pressure of 100kN/m2 as well as a modulus of subgrade reaction of 70MPa/m2 for the floor slabs of the multiple warehouses.

Waste to Energy Facility

Approximately 12,000 m3 of subsoils were excavated and stabilised and re-placed in multiple layers of 300mm, over a geogrid layer on unsuitable substrata, to a total depth of 1.5 meters, to provide an bearing pressure of 15% CBR in which to act as a piling platform for the foundations, as well as allowing the use of a ground bearing floor slab.

Approximately 35,000 m3 of materials were part of the enabling works which consisted of 14,000m3 of topsoil strip and 21,000m3 of subsoils, excavated and re-worked to a standard earthworks specification to form the building plateau, and stabilisation of the external areas to provide a bearing pressure of 15% CBR.

The work in the building would enable the foundations for the distribution centre to be constructed directly on the stabilised works.

First Choice Catering Headquarters

Location: Kingswood Business Park, Cannock, UK

Carry out the excavation of 45,000m3 of subsoils, followed by Dynamic Compaction which influenced the ground underneath to a depth of 5m, re-place and compact the excavated subsoils in 250mm layers to achieve 100kN/m2 followed by stabilising the whole site formation to achieve a bearing of a 15% CBR.

The original specification for pavement construction in external parking areas was amended to allow for subsoil stabilisation to be used to treat suitable available soils to depths of 250mm and 350mm, to a specification equivalent to a capping material (i.e. with a 15% soaked CBR value, and frost resistance where appropriate, where the stabilised soils lay within the frost heave layer). Approximately 5600m3 of primarily clay, with some silty sand deposits, were treated in lieu of offsite removal of surplus spoil, and to replace imported capping material.
